AI video for business: what it’s good at and what to avoid

5 November 2026, 4 min read

AI video tools can now turn a script into a finished video in far less time than a traditional shoot. That’s useful for many businesses, as long as you know where it helps and where it can hurt your brand.

Where AI video works well

  • Explainers and how-to videos: turn help articles into short clips.
  • Training and onboarding: update content without reshooting.
  • Product videos: create short clips from existing photos.
  • Translations: add voiceovers or subtitles in other languages.
  • Ad testing: try several hooks and messages before investing in a bigger production.
  • Repurposing: cut a webinar or long video into short clips.

Where real footage is better

  • Your own people, premises and customers.
  • Before and after work, or anything showing real results.
  • Customer stories and testimonials.
  • Anything where trust is the main reason someone buys.

A simple phone video of you explaining something can build more trust than a polished AI avatar. A good mix is real footage for trust, with AI helping on scripts, editing, captions and versions.

Things to be careful about

Don’t mislead. AI-generated visuals shouldn’t make claims about products or results that aren’t true. Australian Consumer Law applies to your advertising however it’s made.

Don’t fake people. Never invent testimonials or customers. Get written permission before you use someone’s face or voice.

Check the rights. Read the terms for the tool, and check whether you can use the music and visuals commercially.

Check the platform rules. Some platforms ask you to label realistic AI-generated content.

Listen to the accent and words. Check that the voice sounds right for an Australian audience, and that names and local terms are pronounced correctly.

A simple way to start

  1. Pick one video type, such as answers to common customer questions.
  2. Use AI to help you draft the scripts, then edit them in your own words.
  3. Produce five short videos.
  4. Post them, and see which topics get a response.
  5. Do more of what works.

How to measure success

Views are nice, but look at what follows: website visits, enquiries and sales. A smaller, relevant audience is often worth more than a big one that never buys.
